Meet Ghost, a stunning white Finnish Lapphund with a name as unique as her story. Named because of Spotify's continuous suggestions of songs with the word "Ghost" in the lyrics or title, her name took root during the right place and the right time. She shares her name with Jon Snow's direwolf, Ghost, and the resemblance is uncanny, especially with my partner who bears a striking resemblance to the character. It felt like destiny had a hand in her naming.

Ghost entered my life unexpectedly, a serendipitous twist of fate orchestrated by my dear friend Jenn at Bucolick Finnish Lapphunds. It all began when a puppy home fell through, and Ghost's charming presence captivated my heart. From that moment, I haven't looked back.

She's more than a dog; she's our constant, our baby, and our calming presence. Ghost's delightful and persistently affectionate nature keeps us happy and grounded. Her lineage boasts connections to some of my favorite dogs, including Pakkasukon Roni, Terhakan Jallat, and Lecibsin Kepponen.

But Ghost is no ordinary pup. She has a knack for making life exciting and unpredictable. During a holiday visit to Jenn, her breeder, she orchestrated a grand surprise by stealing the heart of her sister Freya's intended man, Dazzle. What made it all the more astonishing was that none of us knew she was in season at the time and she wasn't due for it for another few months, either. Ghost's cheeky and independent spirit shone through, reminding us that she does things her way, with or without our input.

Ghost didn't show any signs of pregnancy beyond what could be considered a phantom pregnancy until just five days before her due date. It was as if she had kept her secret to herself, leaving us feeling like disappointed parents with a teenage daughter. But Ghost had a grand surprise in store for us.

She rewarded us with five gorgeous puppies, co-bred and raised in collaboration with Bucolick Finnish Lapphunds.

 

This unexpected journey deepened our bond with Ghost and filled our lives with the joy of bringing new life into the world, and led us to keep her son Calcifer at home with us.
